Once upon a time, there was a poor woodcutter named Ram. He lived in a tiny hut on the edge of a village.
Every day, Ram would walk into the nearby forest, chop down trees, and sell the wood to a wealthy merchant in the village. It wasn’t a lot of money, but it was enough for Ram to feed his family and live a simple, honest life.

One day, while Ram was working near a river, something terrible happened. His axe, which was the only tool he had to earn a living, slipped out of his hand and fell into the deep river. Ram watched in horror as it sank, disappearing into the dark water. Without his axe, how could he make money? How would he provide for his family? Ram felt helpless and sad.
He knelt beside the river and began to pray. “Please, God, help me. This is all I have. Without my axe, I won’t be able to survive.” He didn’t know what to do, but his faith in God made him believe that help would come.
To Ram’s surprise, a miracle happened. Suddenly, a bright light appeared, and before him stood a figure—God! Ram was both amazed and a little scared. “Don’t worry,” God said kindly. “I heard your prayer. Tell me what happened.”
Ram explained everything to God, telling him how his only means of livelihood had fallen into the river. God nodded, understanding his distress. “I will help you,” God promised. “Wait here, and I will find your axe.”
God then dipped His hand into the river. Moments later, He pulled out an axe made of shining silver. “Is this your axe?” God asked. Ram looked at it closely and said, “No, that’s not my axe. My axe is made of iron.”
God nodded and reached into the water again. This time, He pulled out a beautiful golden axe. It glistened in the sunlight, and Ram could hardly believe his eyes. Surely this must be his axe, right? But again, Ram shook his head. “No, that’s not mine either. My axe is made of iron.”
God smiled and reached into the river for a third time. This time, He pulled out Ram’s old, rusty iron axe. “Is this your axe?” God asked again. Ram’s face lit up with joy. “Yes! That’s mine! Thank you so much!” he exclaimed.
But that’s not where the story ends. God was so impressed by Ram’s honesty. He could have easily taken the gold or silver axes, but he didn’t. Ram only wanted what was rightfully his, no matter how tempting the other axes were. As a reward for his honesty, God gave Ram all three axes—the silver, the gold, and the iron one.
Ram was overwhelmed with gratitude. He thanked God, and from that day on, he never had to worry about money again. He became a successful woodcutter, living a peaceful life, and always remembered the lesson that honesty had brought him so much more than he could ever imagine.
Years passed, and Ram never lost his honest ways. People in the village came to respect him not just for his hard work, but for his character. They saw how honesty had changed his life and how it had brought him rewards beyond material wealth.
What made Ram truly special wasn’t his riches but his integrity. Even when the temptation to take something that wasn’t his was so strong, he chose to remain truthful. And because of that, he was rewarded not only by God but by the respect and admiration of everyone around him.
The story of Ram teaches us an important lesson. Sometimes in life, we face difficult situations where it might seem easier to lie or cheat. But honesty is always the best choice, even when it seems hard. In the end, being truthful leads to greater rewards than we could ever imagine. Whether it’s in our relationships, our work, or in moments of temptation, honesty helps us build trust and earn respect.
